The Dilworth neighborhood of South Charlotte was the city’s first streetcar suburb, and was established by Edward Dilworth Latta in the 1890s. The streets were planned largely in a grid pattern similar to the city's original four wards, and today they are lined with mature trees, sidewalks, and bungalows with front porches and breezeways. East Boulevard features elegant and charming restaurants, shops, and businesses located in renovated Colonial Revivals. Dilworth is home to Charlotte’s largest hospital, Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center and Levine Cancer Institute, Latta Park, and borders up against Freedom Park and Little Sugar Creek Greenway on the East.
